About usMHCC has been a part of the Mount Hawthorn community since 1998. We are a small, independent Christian church, with no official ties with any church denomination.
We meet on Sundays at the Mount Hawthorn Community Centre (Lesser Hall) at around 9:30am Adults and children meet together for the first part of the service. There are separate activities during school term for children after that. We all get together again for morning tea. Small groups (details on the small groups page) are an important part of community life, as well as occasional activities, such as film nights and lunch in the park. Mount Hawthorn Community Church draws its membership from a variety of church and social backgrounds, and is open to all who are curious, or seeking to discover more about the Christian faith and their own spiritual journey. We don't employ full time clergy but draw upon the resources of our community as well as inviting speakers from across the Christian spectrum to share with us. We do employ one person part-time to assist with teaching and learning, Spiritual Direction, and other specific tasks. We have been privileged to hear from people of diverse Christian faith traditions and vocational callings. We take an informal approach, holding lightly while taking seriously our time of worship together. The best way to find out more is to come along. You are welcome any Sunday, to our 9:30-ish service. For those who are interested (we know you're out there), we have a documents page where we make available our constitution, guidelines, policies and other useful and interesting documents. If you would like to enquire further about MHCC please use the contact page. |
Teaching and Learning
A group of devoted people invite speakers from both in and outside of our community. These talks are recorded and where possibly published on our Talks page.
Spiritual Direction
Until her untimely death in 2022, MHCC employed Clare Menck part time to offer Spiritual Direction.
Easter Camp
Every year MHCC has an Easter Camp, at Lavendale Country Estate in York. Easter Camp has always been an important part of our community life. For four days we live in a community environment surrounded by ducks, horses and trees. It is a perfect way to spend time with God and each other. While the format varies from year to year, our focus is always to strike a balance between learning and challenging and just having fun, for adults, kids and everyone together. It is what you make of it. We invite you to be part of it. Everyone is welcome.
